On Thursday, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (PDE5i) that are used to treat pulmonary hypertension.
The FDA approved the drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men who have recently suffered a heart attack, stroke, or other heart failure. However, the FDA has been limited in its approval of the medication due to concerns that it can cause a potentially fatal side effect known as priapism.
According to the, there are at least two other PDE5 inhibitors on the market that are used to treat erectile dysfunction, namely sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra).
In addition to these medications, the FDA also approved drugs used to treat pulmonary hypertension, including nitrates, which are often used to treat angina, and certain drugs for the treatment of high blood pressure, such as alpha blockers and certain drugs used to treat heart failure, including ARBs, alpha-blockers, and alpha blockers that are used to treat high blood pressure, such as ARBs.
However, the FDA does not have access to such medications for erectile dysfunction, and they can be obtained without a prescription at the drugstore, the FDA said.
"FDA continues to evaluate and approve prescription medication for erectile dysfunction," said Dr. Josephine Beitie, a spokesman for the FDA. "We will continue to monitor this issue."
The drug is marketed under the brand name Revatio, with the brand name of sildenafil. The FDA has not approved Revatio as a treatment for erectile dysfunction, but approved the drug in an ongoing study to see if it can treat the condition.
A patient was hospitalized following a heart attack in a heart failure patient in January 2012, after a Viagra-like drug was shown to be an effective treatment for the condition. The condition had been treated for more than three months with a medication known as a PDE5i, but the patient was not able to take the medication.
In a statement to Health Canada, the FDA said it was concerned about the safety of using sildenafil and tadalafil for erectile dysfunction.
"The safety profile of sildenafil and tadalafil in men with erectile dysfunction (ED) is not well established, and there are currently no data to show that these medications are associated with a clinically significant risk of developing priapism," the FDA said.
The FDA also said that it is concerned that some medications can also cause a potentially fatal side effect known as priapism. While not being able to determine whether a patient's erectile dysfunction is due to the medication or other factors, the FDA said that patients should be monitored for the following signs and symptoms of priapism:
In addition, the FDA said that there have been no reports of priapism in patients who have taken sildenafil and tadalafil within the past four weeks.
The FDA said that the most common side effects of sildenafil include headache, dizziness, nasal congestion, and vision problems. Other side effects include flushing, stomach upset, and a headache. Viagra and tadalafil were also found to be associated with a higher risk of priapism than sildenafil, and both were found to be associated with an increased risk of priapism.

Pfizer Inc. has agreed to pay $1 billion to settle allegations it caused a class-action lawsuit filed against it in the U. S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The deal will resolve all issues related to Pfizer’s anti-impotence drug Viagra.
The lawsuit, filed Monday in the Northern District of Florida, includes claims that the drug caused a heart attack, caused a stroke and caused other injuries.
The company has not said how much the settlement will cost, and Pfizer has not disclosed how much it will receive. But it said it will make the initial payment within a year. The company said it will also continue to make the settlement payments.
Pfizer said it would settle all of the cases in a settlement. It will not make any money from the settlement. The company has also said it will pay for some of the legal fees it spent on defending the case.
“The settlement will help the company to better defend itself against a class-action complaint,” said Michael R. Johnson, a spokesman for Pfizer. The company said in a statement that it expects to pay $1.2 billion in punitive damages.
In a statement, Pfizer said: “We have been working with the U. Food and Drug Administration and our attorneys have carefully reviewed the evidence and we are determined to vigorously defend ourselves.”
In a statement, Pfizer said it had no plans to sue the company in a number of different federal cases. “This is not a case for us to pay for any of the damages or recover any damages.”
The company did not respond to a request for comment.
